On booking was offered a superior room on payment of a small supplement Arrived to a welcoming reception and quickly shown to our suite. Impressive room containing a large four poster bed. Unfortunately the bed was set on a dais needing a 5 step climb to reach its level. Another problem was that the height of the mattress was above my wife’s waist soimpossible for her to climb in and I had to make a bit of a running dive at it. Back to reception for a stool which flummoxed them but came up with the solution of putting a chair beside the bed to climb on. It gave us quite a laugh. The steps to the bed made things awkward as apart from a chest of drawers everything else was on the lower level, ie wardrobe bathroom and tea making facilities, so it was a constant walk up and down whilst we were in occupation. Huge bathroom but bath projected diagonally into the room so was unable to enjoy a bath as I knew I would be unable to get myself out without some supporting handles. Also towel rail was out of reach of the bath. It was a fantastic room for honeymooners and younger people of greater ability and height than we have. We are 72 & 80,
The hotel was arranged and designed sympathetically and we enjoyed a well presented evening 5 course taster meal. Breakfast was also plentiful and brought by a most amiable and attentive lady. All staff that we met were of the same ilk.
All in all, a lovely place to stay -recommended - and would stay again but would request a more conventional room. less
