The Fat Badger York, Sure Hotel Collection by Best Western

Small pokey room with a bathroom that should have been a broom cupboard. Cheap metal frame bed that sagged in the middle. Dusty room that was not cleaned for entire stay. No hot water for first day, so had to take cold showers. Poor service overall. less

Whilst walking the City Wallnwe were met with this great aroma of cooking, it was coming from the "Fat Badger" Pub Restaurant. We had a great food and first class sevice from our Server, the staff were so attentive to Both us and other customers. I would recommend this place to anybody when visiting York less

The beer garden is one of those places I'd like to steal and take back to Edinburgh! Views of the Minster, a wee sun trap in the day and the Minster bells ringing. This is an oasis of calm. I'm very impressed with the staff, all friendly and polite and attentive and, given it's touristy location, the prices aren't the usual rip-off you might expect. Food was great too. less

I really loathe writing a negative comment about a hotel stay but I wish I had been warned by a previous guest before I booked. It’s a fabulous inn right by the city walls. The staff are amazing in particular Darren and Debbie. The food is fresh and delicious however my one and only grumble was my room. Granted it was single occupancy however that shouldn’t distract from you being able to relax and sleep. On arrival I complained about it as think it’s should have been highlighted at the time of booking (it’s not the cheapest place to stay in York but I wanted an authentic inn). I was upgraded for the first night to the attic room which was lovely but charged £20 laundry in check out…no reason given why. On the second night, I had to ask the duty manager gone 11pm to switch it off as I couldn’t sleep having deliberately not gone to my room until after 10pm for that very reason as was told that’s when they turn off the fan! 7am the next stay the staff were hoovering. A lovely place to stay however I honestly came back exhausted. I reached out to the owner, shared the video of the noise etc only to receive a half hearted apology from one of his staff. My advice stay here but avoid this room if you want any kind of a nights sleep! Handling of the complaint by the owner and his team could have been much better. Having been to the FB in Harrogate perhaps my ambitions were a little too high, this visit was disappointing and not the standard I expected! less

Booked a couple of nights because we wanted to visit York. First afternoon we took the Hop-on Hop-off and later went to the Cathedral for eveningsong. Next day just walked the city and experienced the sights. This hotel is very central so you can walk everywhere. Hotel staff are excellent. They all have a wonderful attitude and can’t do enough to please you. We took the breakfast plan. Great menu with lots of choices. Ate dinner once and good. Lots of nearby eateries and pubs. less
