Gorgeous Hotel and grounds, poor service.
Having spent two weeks travelling in the highlands we booked a night at Murrayshall as a treat for ourselves before heading back home.
On arrival we were impressed by the architecture of the house and the gorgeous views. We had arrived at approx 1pm, earlier than the 3pm check in, so we thought we’d get some lunch. At reception we were greeted by a charming man (I think his name was Hugo) who said it wouldn’t be a problem to get us checked in straight away, despite arriving early!
We decided to go for lunch anyway, and headed into the dining room. We were the only couple there and were greeted by a friendly waitress. We decided to have afternoon tea, (because we hadn’t booked would be about 15 mins, which wasn’t a problem as we were in no hurry!) once this arrived we had to prompt the waitress that afternoon tea was served with a pot/cup of tea which she hadn’t provided. For the duration of our meal we saw absolutely no one from front of house staff, but could hear them all giggling behind the kitchen wall. My partner had to end up going into the kitchen to find one of the girls, so we could settle our bill.
We then headed to our room, which was very comfortable and clean. However a bottle of bathroom descaler had been left on the sink.
When we headed down for dinner, we were greeted by a pleasant waitress, however she looked unprofessional and appeared to be wearing a cotton jumpsuit and trainers. She lent on the table whilst taking orders, and the service was extremely slow. There seemed to be one waitress serving the restaurant and one waitress bringing out the food. We hadn’t been offered any drinks and had to help ourselves to the jug of water on the side. We then had an issue with our bill, where we had been overcharged for an item, which wouldn’t have been an issue, however it took nearly 15minutes to get anyone’s attention to rectify the matter. Despite beautiful presentation the food was bland, and certainly not worth the cost. Overall poor service and average overpriced food.
The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was a reasonable size and nicely decorated. However the walls were extremely thin and we were kept up most of the night by a couple enjoying themselves next door till the early hours of the morning, who then somehow had the energy to get up at 6am and continue conversing with each other, all of which could be heard easily through the walls.
Breakfast consisted of cheap sausages and watery scrambled egg, croissants were not fresh and came individually wrapped in plastic. Overall overpriced and poor quality.
Checkout was speedy and friendly, the man at the desk (again I think his name is Hugo), seemed to be the only one who knew what good customer service was.
Overall a disappointing experience with poor service and overpriced food. Rooms clean and comfortable, however due to the walls, a poor nights sleep.
