I booked two rooms at Maison Albar Le Diamond on an express deal for a five star hotel. There is absolutely no way this is a 5 star property. The air conditioning didn’t work in the rooms. Apparently, they don’t turn it on even when the temperature climbs outside. We asked a manager about it and he said it gets either really hot or really cold so we just opened windows. He did offer to move us to different rooms, but we had 9 days worth of clothing already unpacked and it seemed like a big hassle to pack in the morning and get moved later in the day.
The Nespresso coffee machine in our room didn’t work. I asked for a replacement machine twice and it never came so I stopped asking. There is one by the concierge so I just used that.
The TV didn’t work in one room, but they were able to fix it after two days.
There was supposed to be bottled water in the exercise room, but it was nonexistent after a few days of being there. I had a refillable water bottle with me, but nowhere to fill it up in the exercise room. The max dumbbell weight was 10 kg, but I don’t suppose lack of exercise equipment makes a properly 5 stars (or does it?).
We came back from sightseeing one afternoon sometime after 4 pm and neither of our rooms had been cleaned yet.
I am a Platinum Marriott member and stay about 100 nights a year in hotels for work. I’d liken Maison Albar to a Courtyard. It definitely wouldn’t relate to a Marriott or a Renaissance, both of which are probably rated as four stars by Priceline.
On a positive note, the front desk team was very nice. They offered 5 star hospitality, but couldn’t overcome the deficiencies we encountered. The location is also very convenient to the Saint Lazare train station and is within walking distance to several attractions.
