We visited Best Western Derwent Manor Hotel for a friends wedding. So before I give the review I would like to say that all the staff who were on duty for the wedding made the day very special and nothing was to much trouble for them.
When I booked the room on the 7th July 2018 for the wedding on the 24th May 2019 through booking.com there was only one type of room left at a cost of £169. A friend who was also attending the wedding booked directly through they hotel and as told exactly the same about the rooms.
Move forward to the day before the wedding a family member asked where the wedding was being held so I went to the hotel website only to find there rooms available for £89.
On arrival at the hotel I asked the receptionist why there were now cheaper rooms available. The response was if you booked through booking.com it is their fault and there was nothing that could be done about it now. As it was the wedding day I did not want to make a fuss spoiling the day for our friends.
our room was not ready which we expected and we went to the wedding ceremony then the meal. it was 1700 by the time we checked in so we quickly got changed then went back to the evening function.
However, I did note that there was a drawer missing at the bottom of the drawers and you could see the unpainted walls in the cupboard, It was really difficult to open the doors on the wardrobe. The carpet had a burn mark from an iron in it, their was paint flaking on the edges of the ceiling i the bedroom area, the toilet seat was loose and there was black mildew around the edges of the bath. The following morning when I check the room before we left I said to my wife is this your T shirt which was lying between a chair and curtains at the window. This tells me how well the rooms are cleaned and checked. I took the T'shirt to reception and all I got was sorry and a charge of £25 for a breakfast which was no where near the value of £12.0 per person.
I received an e-mail from Best Western to complete a survey on my stay, I gave them the exact same comments as above. I have had no feedback from them which actually does not surprise me. I have paid a 3rd of the price they charged for the room in an IBIS, Melia, Travel Inn and Travel lodges with breakfast and far superior rooms.
If that had been a short break I was on and not our friends special day I most certainly would have been at reception wanting a refund. less
