Going back over 35 years, the Best Western Westley Hotel has provided my family with some memorable occasions (weddings, birthdays, wakes) and I was delighted that my elder brother and his wife chose the venue for their recent wedding reception and evening celebration, and not only that, but my younger brother opted to have his 50th birthday lunch the following day in the Seasons Restaurant.
My OH and I arrived on Friday afternoon and stayed in a very comfortable room located on the first floor of the hotel. There adequate hanging and drawer space, and a fan was thoughtfully provided as this is one of the older rooms and has no aircon. A very good hospitality tray was provided with generous tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was excellent, again with plenty of storage space and for once it was nice not to find the bath plug “fiddly”. The bath filled really quickly too, which was nice.
We ate in the Westley Arms bar on Friday night, and my OH enjoyed the pork belly very much. However, I was a bit underwhelmed with my sirloin, which I had requested medium rare, but arrived rare. I’d have also been happy to visit the kitchen and show the chef how to make a potato dauphinoise! (mine resembled nothing so much as a potato cake).
Breakfast was included in the price, and here I’d particularly like to praise the ever-friendly and smiling Luke, for whom nothing was too much trouble throughout our stay. An extremely nice touch at breakfast is the option to have poached and fried eggs freshly cooked and brought to your table.
However, as previously mentioned, we were really there for the wedding, and the Westley Suite venue is amazing, the food was fantastic (own bar facility, although drinks can also be purchased from the main bar) and I’d particularly like to say thank you to Christine, the wedding planner, who assisted my brother and his wife throughout the process (we met her when we were checking in on Friday and she commented on how relaxed the happy couple were about the big day). The tables were so lovely, and the evening DJ was absolutely terrific. The evening buffet was exceptionally high quality with an excellent array of sandwiches and hot snacks.
I even had a peep into the Executive Suite, where my brother and his wife were staying courtesy of the hotel, when I took a consignment of gifts up for them. This is extremely smart with dark red décor, mahogany panelling, and a delightful, separate, sitting room.
Rather to my surprise, the happy couple made it down to breakfast the next morning and were looked after by Luke (my OH failed to make the cut), and we all enjoyed a light breakfast as we were due to have lunch at 1pm. And the legendary Sunday Carvery in the Seasons Restaurant lived up to its usual promise. A fine array of starters were followed by exquisite, generously carved roast beef, turkey and gammon, and accompanied by endless vegetables and huge Yorkshire pudding, by which time everyone was sated and couldn't manage pudding.
A final thank you is due to the reception team for allowing us to extend our check-out to midday, and also for sending in housekeeping while we were attending the wedding service.
I’d conclude by saying that The Westley is always a fantastic place to stay, but I’d like to thank all of the staff for memories our family will treasure all our lives. less
