We were house hunting in the area and needed a place to stay for a couple of nights. We couldn't find anyone to look after our 2 dogs at short notice, so took them with us. We arrived to find a dog bed, feeding bowls and a doggy toy in our room! The room was near a fire exit so we could take the dogs outside without going through the hotel. The room was very spacious with very good facilities generally.
The Best Western seems to be the only hotel in quite a wide area which allows dogs; the only other we know of is the Travelodge in Enfield, which is fine, but it doesn't have any suitable outside space for exercising your dog. However, from the Best Western you walk straight into Epping Forest - brilliant!
Dogs aren't allowed in the eating areas of the hotel, though we were allowed to take ours into a small side area when no one else was there. (I should point out that our two are small to medium size - whippet lurcher and patterdale X - and so can fit fairly easily under tables and chairs). There wasn't anywhere to sit outside and eat - a shame, as the weather was lovely and hot while we were there.
I would definitely recommend this Best Western if you're travelling somewhere with dogs and/or want to spend time around Epping Forest. There's a pub at the bottom of the hill which serves good food. It's encouraging that there are a few hotels, like this one, which set out to make dogs welcome rather than just tolerate them and their owners. It's a pity there aren't more hotels like it. less
