We've stayed here previously many times over 25 years. Unfortunately it's showing its age and not everything is being tended to as I would have expected. I understand that beach hotels require extra maintenance due to the location but this means it needs extra attention. It wasn't up to par this time.
Pros: location and beach access, beds were comfortable, furniture in good shape, microwave and full size fridge were clean, lots of cable channels, free wifi, plenty of parking, floors and carpet in great shape, laundry machines, and friendly staff. Added bonus - a convenience store with a deli and beach supplies is right across the street.
Cons: our room had electrical problems - the first night a few lights weren't working. We checked the in-room breaker box and got things to work. Then woke up the next morning and all electricity in the living room and kitchenette was out. We stopped by the front desk to report it, and it was fixed within the hour. But - really? Also, the air conditioning could not keep up with the heat outside during the day (80's) and even with a setting of 69 on the thermostat, the room couldn't get cooler than the mid 70s. Also the room stayed humid no matter the temperature of the air so it always felt clammy and wet in there. The A/C is quite loud in the room (so had to turn TV volume up when it was on, turn down when it cut off). No safe in the room. The ice machine on our floor was broken. The walls and ceiling in our room were sorely in need of attention. Unfinished paint job, marks, scuffs, dirty corners, and I'd call the condition quite raggedy. See pictures for examples. The balcony door was very dirty on the outside and wasn't cleaned prior to our arrival. The bathroom and adjacent sink/vanity are poorly lit. Difficult to use the mirror at the outer sink since the only light there is a dim vanity light.
Things to note: the breakfast is primarily oranges, waffles, eggs, bread, pastries, coffee and juice. You'll want to turn off your air conditioning if you sit on the balcony because the fan out there is quite loud and blows warm air. It's very unpleasant unless you turn the A/C off.
I'm hoping that Best Western will put some $$ into improving the electricity, air conditioning, walls, and general "fit and finish". less
