Family of four - 2 fussy teenagers. Booked 2nd sitting at 3pm. Greeted on arrival and shown to table. Was aware it was buffet style - cannot understand previous reviews. Why go and join a queue of over 30 people - wait until it is a bit quieter! It is Christmas - talk to your family, take your time instead of standing in a long queue.
Starters lovely, more choices on offer than buffet menu suggested. Main course delicious - very good quality meat with a friendly chef asking customers "is that enough - would you like more?". Very unusual at a carvery style buffet where the meat is usually wafer thin. Every accompanying dish was hot including crispy roast potatoes.
Sweets were also of good quality- again more on offer than menu had suggested. Chef was helpful - provided clean utensils and brought fresh supplies when needed. Would suggest some customers need to remember there are other guests coming behind them, it it is probably not a good idea to use the same spoon for cheesecake, fudge cake and christmas pudding and leave it for other customers to use!!
Bought drinks at the bar - again not an issue even though there was only one person serving. Served reasonably quickly.
Waitressing staff really only there to clear plates as it was a buffet which they did with no issues.
Have been to other local hotels for meals and this is the best so far in terms of quality food - don't really understand the previous negative reviews. Would not hesitate to rebook for Christmas 2016! less

Thank you for recent review regarding your visit to the Lovat Hotel on Christmas Day.
Managing peoples expectations especially on one of the most emotive days of the year can be can be classed as difficult to nigh on impossible with some guests. As with other reviews that you hint about in your review, people are allowed to voice their personal opinion as to how they viewed their experience. With my business being in a very public arena it is comforting that we have a mixture of customer opinions of their experiences on Christmas Day - I would be seriously worried if it was all one sided! But that said, I am a realist, and understand that when you are catering as we did at the Lovat Hotel on Christmas Day for over 250 people, it would be fool hardy to expect everyone to be 100% happy. Had customers explained on the day they were unhappy about something we could change or replace, at least they would have given us the chance to make it right. As it was, I see people using this arena to tell their side of the story and not necessarily the complete picture.
Finally as I have stated in previous reviews, we will be carrying out a post festive review of all aspects of our offerings and comments received there from.
