When I looked for a hotel I wanted 4 things. 1 breakfast in the room ( I get anxiety about going in to restaurants that I don't know) 2 private bathroom, 3 sea view and 4 parking This place came up and ticked all 4 boxes
Pros: lovely sea view, amazing staff and found a parking space a stones throw away for just £2 a day
Cons: told 2 days before we were due to stay that there was a carnival to go on outside our hotel so if we parked there we couldn't move for the Saturday. OK so we changed put plans and decided to watch the carnival. Not so much a carnival but half hour of begging. 1 marching band followed but a dozen charities and roughly 500 people shaking buckets at you.
Room was very dated, the private bathroom had a broken toilet seat and loo roll holder. Very narrow bath. The bed was unsleepable. Rock hard mattress leading to 2 days on about 6 hours sleep. Totally ruined the weekend. On Sunday we left by 7.30. The windows were open when we got there but had to shut them at night because of external noise. That was easier said than done. 2 out of 3 were broken and wouldn't shut.
Now the breakfast in the room that was advertised. Nope. Apparently they were too busy to offer that service, it was also mentioned that it was available on the room key/case so had to look for a local cafe.
All in all a waste of a weekend and £360 quid, not including petrol ... less
Catherine Clifford, Owner at Best Western Lansdowne Hotel, responded to this review
I have just responded to your review of our hotel on google, Ill respond to you now on here too. The toilet seat and toilet roll holder I apologise for it should have been picked up on. These things are rarely missed as I have a very good team so that was an unfortunate error. Im also sorry you thought the room was dated. We have a rolling refurbishment program and as Im sure you can imagine, with the year we have just had this came to an abrupt holt! I am picking up on this again in the next few weeks. I will point out that we are privately owned and with 102 rooms to get round these things take time and money.
You didn't mention on your google review the issues you had with the carnival and that is something that is simply beyond our control! The actual carnival going passed the hotel would only have lasted for several minutes so it simply was not something that disrupted any of our guests.
The mattress is perhaps your opinion - mattress comfort can be very subjective. We have had no other complaints to date.
As far as the windows, I will look into this but sometimes they just need adjustment.
As far as us not being able to offer you breakfast, you are right about us being 'too busy'. When you book Room Only, we do not guarantee anywhere that we can provide breakfast. With staffing as it is at the moment we must ensure that those who have booked and payed for breakfast get a good service.
