When we booked this hotel online it showed a 4 star classification. This is definitely a 3 star hotel though.
The location was ideal for our requirements, close to the train station, shops & shopping mall.
Upon arrival we found the placement strange - the reception is located in a building on the opposite side of the road from the building where the rooms are located. The ladies at reception were friendly & helpful.
Heading to the rooms across the road, the building's front door unlocks with a normal, old fashioned key and the room's door uses an electronic key card. When we requested a second key, we were only given an electronic key card, which meant that one of us was often stuck outside the building in the freezing January weather. Inside the building it's a bit of a maze - multiple buildings connected and knocked through - also lots of stairs and no lift. The building's front door would always take us by surprise - there was something behind it, between the door and the wall that would not allow the door to open all the way, bumping & rebounding to almost hit you in the face as you are walking inside.
We booked a double room but got a room for 3 - double bed and a single bed. It felt spacious, but the beds could've been arranged better. The double bed was pushed up against the wall, making it very claustrophobic on that side of the bed.
The pillows were very uncomfortable, causing disrupted sleep. We got used to it after the 3rd night.
I also tried the single bed, which had a very soft mattress and had a dip in the middle, so quite uncomfortable.
The room also had a cupboard with hangers, desk with kettle, cups, coffee & tea. The full length mirror was much appreciated.
The shower/bathroom showed some dodgy workmanship. The silicone around fittings and features was very uneven and ragged and could've been executed better.
The shower room also lacked storage space. The cabinet under the sink looked promising, but upon opening the cabinet door we found an empty hole! A shelf inside would've been perfect for storing our toiletry bags. The little shelf under the bathroom mirror was just not big enough for all our bits & bobs. Also, the oval shaped toilet bowl was fitted with a square toilet seat (?)
The biggest let down was the level of noise and the lack of soundproofing. Every little sound could be heard from the corridors, the road outside and annoyingly the noisy inhabitants of the room next door (very unfortunate for whoever is sleeping on that side of the bed that is pushed up against the wall.)
The room was cleaned & tidied very nicely every day and we had plenty of clean towels.
With the amount of budget hotels in the area, we're likely to try somewhere different in the future. less
