Dreadful, dreadful, dreadful. We arrived to a packed car park, it was unclear where the long stay airport parking finished and guest parking starts. There is no way I would recommend leaving a car here having seen how staff drive and park vehicles left in the care! There was noone on reception to greet us and when someone did arrive they were curt and uninviting, leaving us to figure out our own way to our room on the third floor through the rabbit warren of stairs and corridors. There was an unpleasant smell which permeated around us which I was relieved did not breach our room. The room appeared neat but I would not describe it as clean and fresh. The wardrobe plinth was hanging off, the window frame was rotting and there was a gap to the outside world all the way down the left hand side of the window, not good when you can see the flight path from Gatwick out of the window.
The bedding was sparse and worn, flat pillows and cushions adorned the bed along with a very thin quilt. The bed could not be described as comfortable but it was adequate. The bathroom was dirty, there was a layer of dust on any fixtures that were above eye level. The towels were thin and rough. The sink was not full size which meant that water splashed onto the floor when performing any task.
The free wifi was intermittent and slow.
We arrived at breakfast and waited by a sign asking us to wait to be seated. A family that were already seated advised us to seat ourselves as the man does not come in very often. We sat at a table and commenced helping ourselves to the breakfast goods on display. A man appeared and asked our room number and promptly disappeared again. The breakfast consisted of cereal, toast, pastries and cooked items. Tea and coffee were in flasks and we were told to help ourselves. The plates weren't warm and the food could barely be described as such either, the hash browns were soggy and the bacon tasteless. The bread had very tough crusts and the jams were budget. The mugs on the table were chipped and dirty. The man appeared occasionally but there was no customer interaction, in fact when I called out "excuse me" in order to draw his attention to a waiting customer I was greeted with "what". He did occasionally busy himself with clearing cutlery from tables on one side of the restaurant whilst tucking his shirt in from time to time as well as checking his phone, but customer service did not appear to be in his vocabulary.
Checking out was a relief, although again there was noone on reception. When someone appeared from the office she was again rude and uncommunicative. Will we be staying there again....to quote my husband "when hell freezes over" less
