The only good things about this hotel are the wifi (although you need a new code every 24 hours) and the location, set next to a public footpath with a lovely walk over fields.
In hindsight I wish I had kept walking.
This hotel has just reopened, but is nowhere near finished - the un-refurbished bits are scruffy, with wires hanging out of ceilings, and there are workmen making lots of noise during the day, both playing loud music and banging around. Otherwise the hotel is (unsurprisingly) very empty.
There are pictures of a pool on the website. There is no pool. There are pictures of a restaurant on the website. The restaurant is not open, although this won't be mentioned when you book. Instead you can eat in a small room next to the reception.
What is available is a 'bar snacks and room service' menu, which is limited, and when I arrived was limited even further to just sandwiches 'because it was a bank holiday'. They did provide a nice salad, but the next evening got my order completely wrong and sent me a pretty awful starter (after about 40 minutes) with old salad garnish instead of the pasta dish I ordered.
Whilst the staff were nice, they are all obviously new to working in hotels and were really unprofessional. I chose to cut my hotel stay short and asked if I could check out, even though it was after check out time, and was told by the receptionist, after she checked with the manager, that I could have an hour to check out. The manager then came and banged at my door and angrily told me I had to get out in 10 minutes, that the receptionist had made a mistake and if I didn't leave in 10 minutes he would have to charge me. I was there on business and had an urgent matter to deal with which meant I couldn't leave immediately, but even though there was no possibility that anyone would be checking in that day (or if they had, could have stayed in one of the many other empty rooms) he insisted he would have to pay extra to have it cleaned that day and that he would charge me for the room. He refused any further explanation, and although he said he would explain in writing, has failed to get in contact. No doubt he will respond to this review with an attempt to justify his behaviour, although I gave him the opportunity to talk about the issues I had with his hotel on the day.
My advice to anyone wanting to stay near here is not to, it is nowhere near being a pleasant hotel experience, and if anything does go wrong, you will be treated with hostility. Terrible customer service and terrible hotel. less
