I booked here for three nights to celebrate my husbands birthday. I can not fault the location and the staff were courteous and helpful, especially Dan, however we were disappointed with our room in that for a cost of over £400 for 3 nights you wouldn’t expect staining to ceiling and walls in two places ( looked like roof leaking previously), paintwork was chipped and grubby, especially on bathroom doors where there were finger prints of previous guests. Also 2 light bulbs not working, they were replaced when we drew attention to it, however should have been checked before we took occupancy. The worst thing was on the morning of my husbands birthday I tried to take a shower when in under a minute the hot water disappeared...this forced me to wake him early to find staff to try and rectify, they could not and I was shown across an outside stairwell, wet and soapy wrapped in towel and dressing gown, into empty room to ‘finish off shower’. Husband upset I had woken him, I was upset I needed too. We were offered a free breakfast as compensation but did not start his birthday on a positive note.
We spent little time in pub as too cold to take coat off. Shame the fir place couldn’t have had a roaring open fire as we liked the history and atmosphere of pub.
Such a shame as I said earlier staff were friendly and helpful. less
