We stayed here while having a Saturday night out in Newcastle. The hotel is perfectly situated just a couple of minutes by taxi away from the bars and restaurants of Newcastle. The hotel has an Indian restaurant joined to it which looked nice, but we didn't have time to try it. You can buy alcohol, water and snacks at the reception. The staff at the Ryokan were very friendly and helpful during our stay.
We asked for a top floor room facing the car park and on arrival were given a first floor room facing the main road. The room itself was fine, nothing special but clean and compact. The underfloor heating was good as was the shower, but everything else was poor. The noise level in room 101 was really bad, when we were watching the TV which is tiny we kept hearing loud banging. We thought it was from the floor above but the noise was coming from a gap in the window which was hitting the sill with the wind or passing cars. I had to stick a complimentary biscuit in the gap to stop the noise. Traffic noise was really bad as well, the windows need updating and soundproofed. The bed was poor and every time i turned over the mattress was creaky and very uncomfortable.
If your looking for a cheap hotel with free parking, great staff and location then book hear. If you want to pay more for luxury and a quieter stay then book elsewhere. less

Thank you for taking time to leave some feedback. I am sorry you had a problem with the window in the bedroom, I shall have maintenance have this checked, as shouldn't rattle. The windows are traditional sash windows, and in keeping with the restrictions with being a listed building. The bed in that particular room is fairly new and shouldn't have a problem creaking or being uncomfortable. The televisions are 22" and shall be upgrading to 32" by next year.
Requests for rooms are only that, requests when we can accommodate. The majority of rooms that weekend were for Twin bedded and we were unable to accommodate you in the zip and link rooms. The hotel is situated on Westgate Road the A186, which is one of the main roads in the City, which is quiet during the night.
I'm sorry to hear you find us to be a cheap hotel, we have many regular guests that book us for the location and the free car parking, which you don't get at all other city hotels with the same star rating.
