We last stayed at the Higher Trapp in October 2018 whilst on our annual visit to the UK and thought then that standards has slipped. On this visit in December, I'm sad to say that matters certainly hadn't improved and in some areas things had deteriorated.
Our main concerns, once again, concern housekeeping. Yet again, there was an inadequate supply of towels unless it is the hotel policy for guests to share. I tried to phone reception but no success...not surprising when I discovered the room phone wasn't even connected to the wall socket. When I went to reception to ask for more towels and mentioned the phone, I was told that if I needed to contact reception again to use my mobile!
The room wasn't particularly clean. On one of the bed side cabinets, clearly a drink had been spilled and had subsequently dried leaving a sticky glass surface which obviously hadn't been cleaned. The room mirror was splattered with something and obviously hadn't been cleaned. On some surfaces was a thick layer of dust so these obviously hadn't been cleaned. As I said in October 2018, there seems to clearly be problems with housekeeping which still haven't been resolved.
The bathroom was cold ( bearing in mind this was December and cold and frosty). I then discovered that the heated towel rail wasn't working and was more or less hanging off the wall.
If the number of guests at Breakfast was indicative of the occupancy of the hotel, it certainly wasn't full so there was no real excuse for such poor standards.
The one good thing was the excellent breakfast served by a lovely lady who we recalled from previous visits.
The Higher Trapp is conveniently situated for when we are visiting the area but for our next visit, we may have to consider staying elsewhere which is regrettable as we have always enjoyed high standards at other Best Western hotels. less
