Many moons ago had purchased AI night which eventually we were able to take. Very welcoming reception from Kerris who explained the COVID arrangements. The Hotel was certainly not busy indeed I saw only a couple of other guests. We had booked a twin room of which there is only one. It was unfortunate that the window, which gave a panoramic view of the countryside, had been put out of commission by a previous guest. it is also above the kitchen/bar area and the commercial extractor fan runs all night. Dinner was lovingly prepared by Sam with starters and a delightful special, Shoulder of lamb, served by Mollie who also kept us supplied with the excellent house house wine ( and later the Martell and Bells !) A decent sleep and up for a freshly cooked full English breakfast served by Anna. My wife wasn't feeling to brilliant so Anna arranged a bacons on toast sandwich for me to take out.
We were leaving for a couple of nights in Borobridge but before we left had a conversation with Jamie the manager. An equable one which saw a discount on the current AI rate leading to a return on the Sunday. The upgraded room was welcome and a delight. Over the weekend the area had been affected by COVID regulations which meant alcohol only with a meal. Emily and Emily looked after us very well and we were able to 'spin out' the ordering and eating of the dinner. Again Sam was on duty and served up a wonderfully cooked swordfish Steak and a Blade of Beef. absolutely 'on point' . Early to bed and breakfast served by Megan.
Late check out and off to Clitheroe. An amusing point about breakfast, the 'local sausages' come from Rotherham. Such a shame when the renowned sausage shop Cowmans is 5 miles away in Clitheroe.
So we left having booked again for a night when we return from a break in November in Harrogate on the same terms. Hopefully the alcohol restriction will have been lifted and we have a leisurely evening.
Must mention the groundsman John who has a pair of Border Terriers. wonderful to see them gambolling in the grounds as he went about his work. less
