Yes there are renovations ongoing in the hotel(this is well communicated on the website so no surprises) but this did not dampen our stay at all.
Roger, Magda and their wonderful team did all they could to ensure a warm and welcoming stay in their charming hotel.
Breakfast was great, I prefer a menu choice for hot breakfast over hot buffet anyday so was delighted there was a breakfast menu, but the cold buffet had plenty of choice, in pastries, yoghurts, fruit and breads. The cheese selection was also really good. We also ate lunch and dinner on one of the days during our stay and both menus while short were well chosen and food was delicious. 3 courses for £15 on Sunday evening was excellent value for money.
The hotels location is ideal for exploring the tourist sites in the north east, and was 1.5 hour drive from beautiful Keswick. The park across the road from the hotel was ideal for a morning/evening stroll.
The bar was quite busy every night we were there so it seems it is popular for not only residents but locals too.
Our room was a very decent size and had a small table and two chairs and plenty of storage, the bathroom had a separate bath and shower
I cannot leave a review for this lovely hotel without honorable mention to the fluffiest, nicest towels I have ever come across in any hotel I have stayed in around the world!
Well done to Roger, Magda and team, we'll be back to see the finished article! less
