I always think Best Westerns are not very good (not sure why, probably bad experience before) but I decided this would be find for the night and the reviews seemed okay. I arrived quite late and walked straight into the bar / dining area which was humming, great atmosphere. There was not an obvious reception but the guy working in the dining room came straight over and sorted everything out.
The hotel is undergoing a major refurb, and I got a room that had clearly been redone recently - very nice it was too.
Back downstairs for a spot of dinner, bargain £12 for two courses - I had the beef carpaccio and open lasagne - lovely. Service 10/10 nothing too much trouble and the guy I met before was really good.
Next day, nice breakfast but a bit of a problem with having a meeting in the bar area with someone using a kango hammer outside. Now, this is where this hotel got a real vote from me. The same guy who looked after me the previous night, found myself an a colleague a quiet room in the hotel (complete with balcony) got us tea and coffee and charged us nothing.
This is what customer service is about - if I ever need to return to Hexham I would not hesitate to stay here - really good, and good value too.
So very well done to the staff, particularly the chap whose name I didn't catch sorry! less
