We recently spent 3 nights here as the first stop on a 3 week Alaskan vacation that my husband and I were doing with another couple. It was a pre paid, self guided trip, but a travel agency had done all of the bookings for us. At check in it was discovered that our friend's reservation was available, but ours was not. This was high season in AK, a very popular city and busy hotels.
With concern on our part and much digging into the hotel records by the assistant manager, it was discovered that the travel agency had originally booked the rooms months before and a month later inadvertently canceled ours, which remains a mystery today, but had a happy ending. The Best Western had one room left so we wouldn't be sleeping across town or in the park! Even though the error was not created by the hotel, they could not have been more determined to fix it, helpful and even apologetic.
The manager stopped by our dinner table in their upstairs restaurant that evening, to check on our comfort and we were treated to a full, large breakfast the next morning that had not been included in our reservation.
The room was clean and comfortable with a good mattress. The on site dining options, with harbor views and outside balcony tables were a great convenience with good food and great friendly service.
The free, on call, shuttle service was a huge plus, both for downtown trips and early morning departure on the Marine ferry.
We would definitely stay again, but would avoid the first floor rooms near the entrance as the fishing tours, waiting to be picked up outside at 3-4 am don't think of the bedroom windows nearby of sleeping guests, when talking and laughing, understandably excited about their outing.
It was a small irritant in an otherwise excellent stay. Good property, great staff! less

We are sorry to hear of the mix-up with your room cancellation, but very happy to hear that our Assistant Manager was able to find accommodations in our hotel for your stay. We appreciate your comments about the early morning risers and will make our night staff aware to keep an eye out for raised voices that may awaken our sleeping guests.
