A Night On The Toon - O2 Academy Newcastle

A visit to the O2 Academy in Newcastle should be on the agenda of any true music lover.

The Academy has a long and glamorous history of entertainment. It started life as a cinema at the beginning of the golden age of Hollywood before becoming a ballroom. In the 1960s, the venue embraced the musical revolution and played host to many of the leading acts of the day. The Beatles, The Who and The Small Faces are just some of the legendary names who have rocked the walls of the venue.

Following three decades as a bingo hall, the Academy returned to its glorious musical roots in 2005, reopening as a prime place for the biggest bands. Musicians such as Adele and New Order are now entertaining the next generation of concert goers.

Situated right in the heart of Newcastle, the 02 Academy is brilliantly located for anyone who wants to combine amazing music and a great night out on the Toon.

See all Newcastle has to offer

Newcastle is one of Great Britain’s most distinctive cities. Its people are famous for their friendly welcome, sense of humour and unique accent and there’s so much to do and see that boredom simply isn’t an option.

The beautifully redeveloped Quayside offers a wide range of bars and restaurants as well as being the perfect spot for a stroll, particularly at night when the ships are lit up and there is a magical feel to the area.

If you like bridges, then there are no fewer than seven you can use to cross over the famous River Tyne. In the city itself there are numerous points of historical interest, amazing architecture and enough shops to satisfy even the most enthusiastic shoppers.

For sports lovers, a visit to St James Park is also in order. Home to Newcastle United, it’s the place where the entire city indulges in its passion for football and match days can be a real experience.
