At the end of a long day of travel, the Best Western Gibside was an excellent oasis. We were greeted by very friendly, helpful staff. We parked on the property, but even if the small parking area is full, the Council lot across the street is 1.50 GBP per day (not per hour, per day). Dinner was being served in the restaurant and in the lounge. We grabbed a good tasting bite in the lounge. Good value.
The room was simple, but adequate. The duvet was warm and soft and there will plenty of pillows to go around. There's a towel-warming rack in the bathroom, free wifi, and a couple of packets of cookies along with coffee (decaf and regular) and tea. Excellent room at an excellent price.
The view? We could look out over Newcastle while eating in the lounge, watching the city lights. Unfortunately, the folllowing morning brought daylight, but also brought dense fog. You couldn't see across the street, let alone across the Tyne.
We had breakfast at the hotel, taking the continental option -- there's also a full breakfast option. Cereal, pastries, yogurt, tasty cheeses, toast, jams, ... all included.
There's a bit of traffic noise in the rooms on the north side -- the view is out the south side. But with the heavy drapes drawn, it wasn't enough to keep me awake.
Excellent stay. I'd recommend this location and I hope some day to be back for longer. less
