Firstly, the staff at this hotel are an absolute credit to Best Western. They seem happy, are always pleased to help and you can often hear them cheerily chattering away to each other while they get on with work - while providing excellent service. I would work here!
The hotel, though, really let them down. I stay at this hotel for business and so all I want is a good night's sleep and a shower in the morning. Both are hard to come by.
The rooms are currently extremely hot, with windows that won't shut or won't stay open. If you are lucky enough to face the courtyard you will be treated to a quiet night - if not, you will have to choose between shutting the window (barely making a difference to the noise) and roasting, or having the window open and being treated to very loud traffic and outdoor noise.
The shower is the worst shower I have ever used, including my Mum's weak electric shower, replaced in 1999. Incredibly difficult even to rinse off - I would be better off standing in the rain (if there was any). Really frustrating before a day of meetings to barely be able to get a good wash.
If this were a small boutique hotel, I would be a lot kinder about these issues. But Best Western desperately needs to do something about this beautiful hotel and give it a good facelift. For the same price, or cheaper, the Premier Inn provides cool, well insulated, quiet rooms with excellent water pressure at any time of day.
Hopefully, Best Western renovates this hotel and allow it to reach its considerable potential - it's already got the staff nailed! less
