My parents and I were quite pleased to find this motel when searching for suitable lodging which would allow us easy access to several state parks along Toledo Bend Lake. Of course, we were initially impressed with the affordable rates we received in reserving our 2-night stay here. Upon arriving, we were also glad to see that the motel had a modern look and that the grounds were well-kept. We also found the check-in attendant to be friendly and gregarious and she worked efficiently in checking us in.
However, though we do not blame the desk clerk for this, we were a bit disappointed that we could not arrange for each room to be paid for with alternative payment methods from the one used to initially reserve the room. We were told that because we reserved through a third-party vendor, only the card used to reserve the rooms could be charged. Here’s the problem, though: I reserved the room through Best Western who owns the Surestay motels. When I asked the clerk about this, she stated that because we reserved online, it was consider a third-party purchase. To me, this policy makes no sense at all. I hope that the BW will change this stipulation , allowing customers to change their payment method, if desired, upon arrival, even though the purchase was made online.
Now, back to more positive points about this Surestay. My parents and I were all impressed by the modern décor of the rooms, the plentiful furniture—two comfy chairs separated by a nice end-table, a nice chandelier-like light above the bed, a nice work-desk and chair, and a good bedside table with ample plug-ins. I was also impressed with the great room curtaining which functioned well to keep the room dark through the night. Further, for both nights, their was very little outside noise. Additionally, The room’s AC performed quite well and worked quietly. We also slept on very comfortable beds and the shower was quite enjoyable as well.
Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed in the poor wi-fi service as I received many dropped connections or slowed service while using my iPhone. These interruptions happened so often that I abandoned the service altogether, reverting to my mobile Internet service. But, my folks found the breakfast to be simple yet tasty; though I read many complaints about bagged breakfasts, I see no problem with them as long as the contents taste good.😊 A couple of final hidden perks of this nice establishment is that this Surestay is truly a great spot if one wants to visit the many state parks sitting on Toledo Bend. Frankly, there are a couple hotels/motels nearer the Louisiana side of the lake but the reviews for them are mostly negative and the prices are much higher than this spot. Further, Leesville has some really good eateries there which are all near the motel: give the Wagonmaster Steakhouse a try!
If you want an affordable spot in Leesville for the night or if you want to enjoy the sites of Toledo Bend, I definitely recommend you give the Surestay a try. Though there are some improvements to be made, my folks and I greatly enjoyed our stay here and we will definitely be back if the Lord Jesus wills it. I do apologize for your inconvenience at the check-in process. The desk clerk was mistaken about you not being able to use a different credit card besides the one you reserved the room with because Best Western reservation line isn't considered a third party booking company.
