I would like to email you to inform you of the disappointing experience we had at Stoke Rochford Hall. The hotel looked stunning on the photos, and we were so excited on the approach to this incredible historic building. Unfortunately, everything went downhill from there.
Upon arrival, there was a cue of people trying to check in with one member of staff, there was a phone ringing the whole time with no one to answer. The woman in front of us started complaining that the rooms were nothing like they were in the photos.
We stayed in mansion room 6. It was a large room but only had a double bed, which wasn't made properly, with large stains all over the fabric base. All the walls were heavily marked, dented and grubby. The bathroom walls were marked and looked like someone had sprayed them with coca cola. Really poor finish on the decorating, with grouting and sealant all over the place. Neither taps worked well and both dripped. The light fittings had flies in or were hanging off, not working, or had different coloured bulbs in. All windows were filthy. In fact, the windows in the whole building were very dirty and all the decor was in a very shabby state.
We went to the restaurant which had absolutely no soul. We were served drinks in the wrong glasses, and the water glasses on the tables were dirty, these were sat next to very cheap looking salt and pepper pots. We're were given the menu, which was very limited on pieces of A4 paper, stapled together. Some of the dishes were very overpriced. The food wasn't terrible, chicken was a bit dry, but definitely not worth the money. People were complaining about the service and wait times for food, but we didn't have an issue with either of those things. We were sat next to a window that was so grubby, that the floodlights diffracted off the dirt, making it impossible to see out of.
We had to wait 10 mins at check out, because our dinner was not added to our bill and we had to hang around while the receptionist found it. All in all, a poor experience. I've stayed in a lot of cheap hotels for work and this matched some of the worst ones. I saw an advertisement for an event on arrival, that I thought might be nice to buy for my parents. But I changed my mind after our experience. less
