Having only just nicely come out of shielding since 12 March, we were desperate to get away for our first weekend this year and it was also my husbands birthday, but COVID-19 safety measures in this hotel left an awful lot to be desired. This put a huge dampener the trip for me.
Not one member of staff wore a mask not even in any of the narrow corridors all over the hotel. We even had to look hard in some places for the hand sanitiser. There was no evidence at all that the high touch areas of door finger plates and handles in the corridors were being frequently sanitised, they looked very grubby indeed. In the breakfast room, a ceiling fan was very kindly circulating air around the tables and there was no sign of a much needed waiter service which would have been much more practical. This was a far cry from the "We Care" campaign that the American "Best Western Hotel Group" promote on their website for COVID-19!! The only person we ever saw cleaning was the young girl at the bar (bless her) who was constantly spraying and cleaning her area, sadly, that's where it ended.
It was it stark contrast to The Belfry where we visited for the day. They thought of everything and really made everyone feel much more relaxed. The couple of pubs and restaurants in the area were excellent too and went out of their way to make sure we felt safe.
We were supposed to have been in a "superior" room but unfortunately there was nothing "superior" about it. We even had to ask for glasses, chocolates, fresh fruit and "luxury toiletries" which consisted of one tiny bottle of shower gel and one tiny bottle of shampoo!! (a joke!)
The food on the first night was terrible. All that was on the menu was burgers and fish and chips and chicken and chips! The second night was much better though I'm glad to say clearly a different chef!!!
Despite the fact they weren't made to wear masks, the staff themselves were absolutely faultless, they could not have done enough for us, they were absolutely brilliant.
We definitely won't be back I'm afraid and sadly, I wont be recommending it to anyone.
For me, had they gone the extra "COVID" mile it would have made all the difference to me. less
