Yes, Hotel Collingwood. It is difficult to rate this hotel as some of it’s facilities are excellent but others are not so good. So I will rate them separately. The public areas are stunning, whoever did the interior designing was very talented. Exceptional. The staff are exceptional too. All staff are friendly, well presented and helpful. The food in the restaurant was, I have to say, de-lis-scious! The best food I have tasted in a long time. The plates were scalding hot as opposed to being cold, the presentation was superb. Well done that chef, whoever you are!! The “piece de resistance” in the restaurant was the Maitre’d.....Piotr or Peter. Wonderful host and nothing was too much trouble. He was very friendly whilst still remaining professional. The drinks from the bar were reasonably priced too. Parking was available with plenty of spaces. I would rate all of the above as 5 star without hesitation.
But now we move on to the bedrooms. Unfortunately I would have to rate (at least the one my husband, myself and our dog were in) them as 3 star. Why? Well, the room was extremely small with a double bed.....a double bed? Who has one of those any more! The furnishings were OK but with a room the size of a postage stamp they were too cramped together. The bathroom was small too, I couldn’t get out from the (over bath) shower if my husband was standing at the washbasin shaving!. Now as I understand it refurbishments are taking place with the bedrooms, but no amount of refurb could turn that bedroom into anything other than 3 star. It would be better to have a single bed in there and market it as a single. This particular room was very, very tired......in fact I would say it was exhausted!!!
The hotel is dog friendly and , if required , the staff would set up your table in the lounge if you didn’t want to be parted from your pet. We always leave ours on the bedroom whilst we enjoy the ambiance of a restaurant. Dogs are allowed in all the public rooms except, obviously, the restaurant. Unfortunately the hotel, through no fault of it’s own, falls down with not having an area to take Fido for the usual late night/ early morning wee. There is only the carpark at the rear and no grass whatsoever. This is of course due to the hotel’s location, being in an urban area.
Regarding the location....it is excellent, within walking distance to the lovely beaches and pier.
So......would I return? Apparently there are bigger rooms but these are usually reserved for families. My dog doesn’t “do” concrete if you follow my meaning!! I would return because of the fabulous food and if I had a bigger room, but it doesn’t suit my dog and if it doesn’t, then I wouldn’t return with him but might be persuaded to go without him!!
I hope this has been helpful to you. Get in touch if you have any questions. less
