I do not wish this to be a negative review, but silly niggles spoilt what was a good experience. After reading the trip advisor reviews we booked direct which was a much better deal than a third party we did not have to pay to use the amenities. My two grandsons were in and out of the pool, and the gym was amazingly good for a hotel, this would have been expensive at £5 per head per visit.
Our rooms one family, and one double were ok, the family room had a smoky smell to it, and the double was facing a wall, not too bad if you sat sideways then you could have a bit of a view, but overall comfortable beds and clean rooms.
Surroundings and play areas were lovely, and the children's play area which we could see from the bar area was great.
Having read the previous reviews of the staff and food, I felt we were in a different place, we decided to eat in the bar, and were given the bar menu, when we all made our choices we were told instead of the three menus we could only eat off a limited section, which was inappropriate, there was also another party who complained, and they had to send out for KFC not a good start.
Breakfast was fine, plenty of choice, not much fruit , plenty of alternatives.
We then decided to book the hotel dining room for dinner, the Manager on duty explained it was a carvery that evening, and as we were veggies we asked if it would be possible to have something off the a la carte menu, he came back to the table and said this wold be ok but we may have a wait, we had no problem with this.
Arriving at dinner we were told carvery or we could have the same menu as the bar the previous evening there was an alternative which was rolled plaice which looked most unappetising, so we had some salad and coleslaw for the starter and the same for main with rolls and butter.
We then asked for cheese and biscuits which we were prepared to pay extra, but were curtly told this was not possible, by one of the senior waiters.
One of our party when we returned to our rooms rang the reception and asked if this would not have been possible , the receptionist said it would have been and she sent two complimentary plated of cheese and biscuits to the two rooms, although too late it was a lovely gesture. less
