ours was a birthday and anniversary night away and choose this hotel is it was fairly close to friends we were visiting the following day. first impressions were fine when we drove up to the hotel and the room in the pavilion building was as expected and the balcony is lovely to sit on in the evening particularly in the hot weather. It was quiet in the pavilion but a large wedding party was in the main building. we were slightly disappointed that our special occasions we were celebrating had not been acknowledged by the hotel at all despite notes being put onto the booking. we go away for our anniversary every year to various chain hotels and always have lovely acknowledgement, such as petals on the bed or strawberries, etc.
room and grounds we well presented and kept clean.
the pool and leisure area was ok and pleased that it is adults only after a certain time. although facilities are quite small, being provided with towels was good. The golf course was very dry and quite dusty and needed a little tlc but the hot weather hasn't helped this so not too much that the grounds person can do. we used carries bar and ate in there, although a little bit of a wait for a sandwich which we put down to the large wedding party having their wedding breakfast at the same time this was good and drinks prices are reasonable for a hotel.
What let the hotel down for us was the Flames restaurant;
our evening meal was returned as the side dishes were cold, but this was rectified quickly (but no apology) and the meals were full of flavour so assumed it was a busy Saturday night and the chef was under pressure. Breakfast however was a shambles as the kitchen appeared under staffed and possibly the same chef on in the morning that was on shift the evening before. he could not keep up with demand and wasnt replenishing hot food until it had completely run out which with the delay of cooking times made it impossible to get a full cooked breakfast. when we did get scrambled eggs this had a lot of shell in it so wasn't pleasant. fruits and juices we not refilled all the time either. we ate at 9am and restaurant was due to shut at 10am so not as though we were the very last in. this was extremely disappointing as booked bed and breakfast as extra. less
