Stayed whilst working locally.
I was hopefully, before arriving, that this was going to be a pleasant hotel. It was not.
My room was extremely dark. The furniture and decor was dated. It was like a festival to the 1970s.
Even though I was staying in May and the temperature was cool outside, my room was very unfathomably warm, even with the window open.
I had glorious views over the flat roof, where I could observe vegetation growing out of cracks and rain water pooling. Guttering was broken resulting in water streaming off the roof onto the ground below.
One morning, the hot water was turned off whilst I was in the middle of my shower. Quite literally: no hot water. I had to ring down to reception and wait for it to be sorted. Not impressive at 8 am whilst getting ready for work.
Breakfast was adequate at best.
Food in the bar was marginally better, but the restaurant was not open at all during my stay (only open on Friday and Saturday evenings) so only option for food is the bar or room service.
Bar is decorated nicely, but that is the only part of the hotel that could be described as such.
Gym and pool, much like the rest of the place, are tired and have seen (much) better days.
Grounds are nice and staff were pleasant, which were the only positives.
Definitely would not stay again and would caution against others doing so. less
Blunsdon House Hotel, Owner at Blunsdon House Hotel, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review
Dear Matthew,
It is always disappointing to read that one of our guests has not enjoyed their stay but even when we strip out the subjective aspects here, this is particular strange review to try and unpick. You complain that our food and service was adequate (or better!!) and then proceed to strongly recommend others against staying at the hotel. So much so you created this account to that end.
We respectfully disagree with some aspects of your review - for example many of our leisure facilities are less than 12 months old (new spa, sauna, steam room and gym equipment) and could not be fairly described as tired. Our public areas (restaurant, bars, lobbies and corridors) have all seen full refurbishment in the last 6 months and we very glad that you liked them. We appreciate the feedback about your room amd you will be pleased to learn have a bedroom refurbishment programme ongoing.
If you would like us to look into the specific issues you raise further, it would be extremely helpful if you were to contact the hotel operations manager (Alex.Roupelis@blunsdonhouse.co.uk) and furnish us with your details.
Kind regards, BHH
