In this hotel right now. It is a gorgeous and clean place. Can’t beat the view of Lake Superior. Upon check in Ann Marie was friendly, knowledgeable, and overall awesome. Unfortunately, that’s where it ended. It’s snowing and the satellite dish is covered with snow so the TV isn’t getting a signal. My husband went to the front desk and was told there was nothing the front desk kid could do because he looked and the dish was too high. I went to the front desk myself and asked for a broom. It isn’t too high to reach with a broom... The kid basically started to argue with me and was rude as can be. My husband asked if maintenance could be called and the kid snaps back that he did and there was no answer. Apparently this whole hotel has ONE maintenance person. Anyway, He left the front desk area and was gone for a bit. Came back, said he can’t give us a broom because he called his GM and she said it’s an insurance liability. Of course it is, I know this, but saying there’s nothing you can do and dismissing a guest is unacceptable. I got the GMs name and you can be sure she will be getting a call from me on Monday. I told him he was rude and he didn’t seem to care. I also told him that upon check in my husband and I fell in love with the hotel and already told family how lovely it is and planned to return in the fall with our kids. There is NO chance of that happening now. I can get that there are limits to what this kid can do but it was his sarcastic, don’t really care attitude that pushed me over the edge. If the maintenance person can’t be reached maybe they should have a back up plan. Maybe the GM should be coming in here to do it herself. Telling a hotel full of guests that having no TV all night to just deal with it is the worst possible thing you can say to a guest. If I could have found the phone number for the ownership, Maplewood Hospitality, LLC I’d be calling them too. I will never stay at a hotel owned by this company nor will so ever stay at a Best Western branded hotel ever again. less
