On planning our wedding we searched high and low for a venue where we could do everything in one place. The Ship couldn't have been better, really accomodating to our every need and our guests too.
The staff were all very friendly and completely professional. We even had Wendy blowing up our inflatable guitars for the evening do. When we first booked the venue it was under different management, but in truth with the change of management things only got better. Georgie the events co-ordinator couldn't have been better if we tried, everything was written down when we met and emailed to us for confirmation the same day. Thinking about it we were probably a right pain in Georgie's derriere, changing all the menu for the wedding buffet. having said that the food was superb, we had 200 guests and it must of been good because the food vanished within minutes!! I highly recommend the Jerk chicken, woowahweewow absolutely stunning. In truth all the food was fantastic. The restaurant with joins on to the hotel is a Gordon Ramsey's outlet and although the menu isn't the largest selection in the world, everything on the menu is delicious.
We stayed in a suite which was gorgeous, sleigh bed, window sill seat, en-suite bathroom and incredibly spacious to boot. The room was decorated very tastefully indeed without being over the top. The most important thing was that is was impeccably clean. One concern we had was that when we first got to the room, was that it was facing the main road, so we initially thought it was going to be noisy. How wrong were we, it was quiet and with all the comfort you could ever need. One little niggle was that all the power outlets were all on one side of the room, the dressing table side of the room. Having said that, that really is just a personal niggle, no real problem.
The bathroom was very spacious and well presented, with a good quality shower, something that anyone who stays at a quality hotel needs. Big mirror for all the preening needs, and the stone floor was never cold.
Going down to breakfast I was filled with dread as most hotel stayers are, but in truth I couldn't knock anything at all. The hot food was fully flavoursome and not greasy at all, and the cold buffet has absolutely everything you could want for a hearty breakfast. My wife is a vegetarian and proclaims that the veggie sausages are even better than Linda McCartney's and that is really saying something!!
The room we had for the wedding was perfect, airy, light and perfect for both the ceremony and the evening shenanigans too. The room held 120 seated guests, which was stipulated by the registrars, but had no problem at all accomodating all the 200 guests for the evening.
With forward thinking the hotel but all our guests facing into the courtyard so we could be noisy until midnight. The hotel bar stayed open until the guests gave up.
All in all we thoroughly recommend The Ship as both a hotel and a wedding venue with excellent staff and just an overwhelming sense of value for money. less
