SUPERB STAFF, EXCELLENT BREAKFASTS & DINNERS. ROOM ‘FAIR’
I gave this hotel 5* because it has the best, most helpful and friendly staff of any hotel we’ve stayed in during the last few years and the food is excellent.

Everyone did their utmost to provide us with a lovely holiday. Everywhere was kept immaculately clean and hand sanitiser was provided in several places. Without exception, the manger, receptionists and waiters were brilliant. (I can’t comment on the cleaning staff, as we opted not to have the room serviced. Plenty of fresh towels, tea, biscuits etc. were available on request)
The choices at breakfast and dinner were plentiful, as was the amount and the quality of the meals. The three chefs worked very hard to present us with their offerings. The only small thing at dinner, which could easily be rectified was the boring veg. It was precisely the same every day! We ate the carrots and peas but the boiled parsnips and mangoes we never touched.
The beds were very comfortable and there was plenty of storage space. The room had its downsides though. There was no fridge. Room 312 is next to some traffic lights, so there was a lot of revving of engines etc.at all hours. We always take earplugs on holiday and would have had to change rooms if we hadn’t had these. The bathroom definitely needs to be made safer. My husband and I are in our late seventies. The shower was inside the bath which had very high sides and no grab handle anywhere. The bath base is curved which made it even more difficult. We are pretty agile but both of us nearly fell over several times trying to get in and out even with the rubber mat inside the bath. The whole bathroom needs a revamp. The water pressure was very poor all week and the window couldn’t be opened.
It takes 7 mins. to walk to the main market and 15 mins. to reach the bus station, so us conveniently located.
We would happily stay here again if we could have a quieter room with a modern bathroom with only a shower. less

Thank you for your 5/5 review. It is wonderful that you enjoyed your stay and we appreciate your valued feedback.
The Royal has a number of bedrooms with walk-in showers and these may be requested at time of booking if this is thought helpful.
All bedrooms do have an opening window though many are restricted for safety reasons.
Thank you for your comments on our location close to the main market. We are also close to the Millennium Town Park which is an open space enjoyed by many guest on their way into the town itself.
Again, your feedback is appreciated.
