Booked this hotel on half board at £89 a night. Very Impressed. Everything you would expect from Best Western. Check in fast and simple, give a card to secure any extras to be charged to room
I requested a quiet room on a high floor and was not disappointed. My room (315) was 3 floors up at the back of the building, about a weeks walk from reception, not a problem as I like to be quiet, but ask for a closer room if walking is a problem for you. Room was spotlessly cleaned, and was cleaned and tidied everyday. Housekeeping come from 8 am onward and was a little early for me one day but had no problem coming back later. Room features Safe, Iron & Board, hairdryer, fan and phone as well as the usual TV and coffee equipment etc.
Bathroom was clean and tidy at all times but the shower is useless, over the bath type linked to a mixer tap. The riser rail is set ridiculously low and even when the head is at the highest setting is still only about chest high, the corner bath features a seat for showering sat down but the shower cannot be angled over the seat sufficiently without soaking the bathroom. Yes I learned the hard way, at least plenty of towels to mop up! Water pressure constantly fluctuates too meaning the shower button drops back down and switches back to tap when the pressure drops. Hence only 4 stars
On to the food: Breakfast is served in the restaurant area and is very good quality, wait at the entrance to be seated, when at the table an order for hot drinks and toast is taken and you will be directed to the self service area. Buffet has a selection of breads, cereals, fruits and cold meats and cheeses, plus there is a choice of Full English options available (eggs have to be ordered separately and are cooked to order), No black pudding though :( The younger suited guy in charge of the breakfast area (sorry, didn't catch his name) is jovial and friendly, nice to see first thing in the morning.
I took my first evening meal in the restaurant, but I have to say it was not for me, Its far too formal, seat pulled out, napkin draped for you, too much french on the menu, over complicated dishes and a poncy atmosphere. Not a bad thing for some people I'm sure but not my style. Food can also be served in the bar area but this was busy most evenings so I opted to order from the room service menu. This is fantastic, a range of simple nourishing dishes including steaks, salmon, burgers and pasta dishes delivered to the room about 20 minutes after order for a tray charge of £4. Breakfast can be ordered the night before for delivery to the room too.
On check out there was an issue of being charged for meals that should've been included in the half board rate but this was resolved with no fuss at all.
All in all a very good hotel less
