Booked 2 x singles rooms months in advance to find when we arrived that there was only 5 singles and none were nearby each other. The manager went to extraordinary lengths to make sure we had adjacent rooms and even upgraded one of them.
The food was good throughout, in the breakfast room, restaurant and bar. We ate here 2 of the 4 nights. All the staff are foreign but exceptionally well mannered and nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms are tired and dated and yes there are lots of stairs but the hotel has evolved out of 3 seperate buildings, so if mobility is a big issue then this is not the place for you. Would definitely recommend as customer service was outstanding. less

We are a team of staff from a mix of nations including Jersey and the UK and we celebrate our diversity, having in addition recently been awarded a Gold level Investor in People Award; so investment in our staff and valuing our team is very important to us.
We are a long established hotel and are open year round. Our bedrooms do differ and many are newly decorated, indeed a discreet section of the hotel is off-line for full decoration from this week. Not least because of our town centre location, the Royal has run at near full occupancy for almost six months and with the slightly quieter winter season approaching we have more access to bedrooms to redecorate after such an intensely busy visitor season.
It is pleasing that you feel the food was good in respect of breakfast, our Rosette restaurant and within our hotel's informal bar. This feedback, again, is appreciated by our dedicated team. Our catering is freshly prepared by our established kitchen team and we are proud of this fact.
Yes, the hotel has evolved over the past 150+ years and this has, in our opinion, led to a more quirky individual style of hotel which elicits opinions and as such is an interesting place to stay.
