Avoid this hotel - Tiny rooms, terrible management and shoddy customer service.
I stayed here recently with my husband and our two children, aged 9 and 12.
We booked the hotel weeks in advance and upon arrival were given room 435, which is on the top floor and at the very end of the corridor. The room was incredibly tiny, so small that there was literally no place to store our luggage. In the end we had to stack our suitcases on top of each other in the middle of the room, and then slide around the cases to get to the beds. At night, the room was airless and very warm and we all commented on how badly we slept because of it.
To top it off, when we tried to have a shower in the bathroom, the cold water tap in the bath was broken, meaning that only scolding hot water came out of the mixer top controlling both the shower and the bath. We phoned to reception to report the fault and a nice lady came to see if she could fix the tap for us, but she confirmed that the tap was indeed faulty, but that unfortunately the hotel maintenance team was away for the next two days, and so the broken tap couldn't be fixed during our stay.
Ten minutes later, the hotel management called to say that due to there being no bath or shower facilities in our room, they would offer to move us to the only other available room in the hotel, but that it would be even smaller than the room we were currently staying in. Alternatively, the management said that we could stay in our present room with the broken taps and instead all walk down to the basement area to use the showers in the hotel gym. For this inconvenience, the hotel would offer us a 20% refund on our stay, but no more.
I'm sorry, but in this day and age, this is simply not good enough! The stay at the hotel had been booked as a special weekend away for the family, to celebrate one of our birthdays. We do not want to have to 'slum-it' and be carting a change of clothing down four floors of stairs to have a wash and get ready in the communal changing rooms, before we go out for our evening meal and then again before we go down for breakfast in the morning.
If a 20% refund for a ruined weekend is EMA Yew Lodge's idea of acceptable customer service, for such a shoddy hotel experience, then I can only suggest that people stay at one of the other hotels in the area.
Do not stay at this run-down hotel. You have been warned! less
