After we had gotten everything unpacked in our room, we noticed two things: there was a disgusting stain on one of the beds, and there was a dead fly in the same bed. I picked up the phone to call downstairs, but the phone didn't work.
I went downstairs and the girl (I think her name was Antoinette?) assigned us a new room immediately and said she was going to send someone up to look at the room. I took a luggage trolley and brought it upstairs, and as we were loading everything on it (in all manner of chaos because we weren't going to repack everything) a young man came in to look at the room. Don't know what his name was. He looked at the stain on the bed and said it "probably" should have been noticed, but didn't seem concerned about the dead fly. He actually said "there's nothing you can do about flies, this just happens".
Yikes. I asked how that could happen when the windows don't open, I mean where did the fly come from, and anyway, it's disgusting to find a dead fly in your bed, and it's not what we expect from Best Western. Again, he just shrugged and said there is nothing to be done about flies. Yeah, okay.
Also upsetting, we were two women struggling with the trolley (it was heavy!) trying to manoeuvre it out of the room and it would have been really nice if he had at least offered to help.
The second room was fine and the stay was fine, but all in all, not the best experience.
The next morning before we checked out, the maid was cleaning a room across the hall. She asked if we were leaving and we said "not yet". It was super foggy, so we planned to load up the car and then come back to the room for a bit. We left the "do not disturb" sign on the door and went to pack the car. When we got back upstairs, the door was open, the sign was removed, and there was a towel in the door to keep it open. Clearly she was in a hurry to get started, but I mean it wasn't even 9:00 yet and we hadn't actually left.
All in all it was just average. less
