There was much about our recent stay that was very good. The room overlooking the golf course was huge, and beautifully fitted. All the staff were helpful and covid precautions were in evidence everywhere. Our evening meal was good, though my first pint of Black Sheep was a bit below par. The second one was much better.
But, when we opened the windows in the bedroom we found that we were directly above the terrace where smokers were enjoying the afternoon sunshine, so the smoke drifted into our room. And very late in the evening the terrace was occupied by people chatting very noisily indeed. They moved away when asked but perhaps a notice asking for consideration is needed.
Breakfast was average. All the components of a full English served from heated trays. There were a lot of people there, a company conference I think, so perhaps inevitably it just wasn't as good as the excellent individually cooked breakfasts we had enjoyed in several B&Bs.
The hotel is set in 320 acres, but finding somewhere to walk the dog was not easy. we were directed down to the woodland lodges where quite a lot of building is going on and eventually found a Woodland Walk. Enough for brief stretch of the legs, but not as grand as the website led us to believe. less
