Good Hotel. Excellent Location. Excellent Staff.
My mother had recently completed an extended stay of several months at this hotel. I visited her at least 2 times a day, and spent upward of a few hours at the property and the immediate neighbourhood every day. Over these several months, I have the opportunity to make a lot of observation on this hotel and the surrounding.
Right before I wrote these comments, I read several pieces of review on Tripadvisor. The ratings were generally mediocre. With due respect to the writers of those review, I personally do not think those mediocre ratings do this hotel and the staff much justice.
This is an older property, and as a result the look and feel is somewhat aged, sort of an 80ish feel. But this is compensated by the fact that the room size is significantly larger than hotels at the same price range in the same Western District neighborhood on Hong Kong Island, and the room rate is very good value.
Because of our extended stay at this hotel, I have pretty much come into contact with almost all the front office staff, the concierge staff, security staff and housekeeping staff. I have never had encountered any problems at all. They all addressed my request promptly and courteously. In events that they were unable to fulfill my request, the staff were quick to offer alternatives. While I cannot recall the names of all the staff, but Stephen, Jonathan , Kelvin, Jason are all very professional hoteliers.
During the stay, we did come across occasional problems, such as water dripping from AirCon vents, but given the fact that it is an older property these problems are not unanticipated. A phone call to the front office would have a technician at the door to fix the problem almost immediately.
The hotel is located in a busy and older urban neighborhood, with sort of a "Bohemian" feel. There are lots of small restaurants with local charisma and persona nearby. There is a tram stop right in front of the property. Bus stops are right opposite the street. The hotel lies in between the University of Hong Kong MTR station and Sai Ying Pun station, which are both a 5 to 7 minute walk away. Very convenient, yet this is away from the hustle bustle of the other more crowded districts such as Mongkok, Wanchai, or Causeway Bay.
This is no 5 star property, the room rate and brand reflect that fact. This is a 3 to 4 star hotel, and at this price level & location an excellent choice! less
