Bahnhof means Train Station and the hotel is right across from Schaffhausen's main station. And, no, you can't hear or feel the trains, day or night. We have relatives over there and we stayed last year. It is simply a peaceful, friendly place. Check-in and check-out is quick, the staff friendly and helpful. When we did not have the right electrical adapter (and could not find one in stores), they let us borrow one from an assortment that could satisfy outlets from Africa to Iceland. The beds, shower, rooms are the right size and clean, there is a save and all necessary amenities. Breakfast is ample, buffet style and typically European with the fruit, muesli, yogurt, cold cuts, cheeses, warm items, like scrambled eggs, etc., and, of course, those yummy, crusty breads.
One of the best features of the hotel is it's location. Aside from the train station with trains to Zurich(and an underground station inside Zurich's Airport), there is also the main Bus terminal with buses in all directions. We walked to the famous Rheinfall (about 1 1/2 hours), but you could take a bus or even the train to Neuhausen and walk down from there. Just in back of the hotel is Old Town (car-free), with its cobblestone streets, medieval houses, restaurants with out-door seating, shops and a Saturday morning Farmers Market. You want a charming, characterful, picturesque town, look no further. The hotel fits in well.
Lastly, we had made reservations months in advance and when our plans changed the hotel managed to fit in an extra day (during peak season). Thank you Ms. Pfaff.
We will visit again next year and we'll stay again at the Bahnhof. less
