Winter in Old Quebec I recommend the city beautiful in a blanket of snow. We did a girls getaway. This was a winter adventure, so we rolled the dice and did Hotwire. Best Western City Plus was our score. Hotel located not far from the old city, but I wouldn't say walking distance in the winter. We did the walk but as the evening comes and the temperature drops the side walks become slippery. For $10 take a taxi evening.
The hotel is easy to find, the valet parking is terrific. We had a double room, beds very comfy snuggle in with duvet, mini-fridge, huge TV with english channels, great closet for coats and boots, very nice size bathroom, and great water flow in the shower. Hotel has Cafe with good coffee, and restaurant.
The hotel check in staff very helpful and knowledgeable about the area and suggestions for things to see and do. Hotel pool and hot tub lovely to come back to after a cold day exploring the old city.
I was worried about possible language barrier, only knowing a little of the french language, we had no issues the Quebec people very friendly and make a real effort to communicate in English.
We made the most of our days, Shopping Petite Champlain, Carriage Ride of the Old Quebec, visited Marche Old Market, walked the cobblestone streets, ate crepes, took the tram up to the Frontenac, highly recommend evening dinner at Bistro de le Sam. We drove 30 minutes out of the city to visit Ice Hotel(not where the tour guide states)its located at Valcartier Village, Aquarium.
Amazing girls getaway, we are already planning to return in the early fall. less

Dear MustangFun, on behalf of our entire staff here at Best western PLUS City Centre Quebec, I would like to express my gratitude for publishing such a complete and accurate account of your recent visit at our property. Inputs like these are not only vital in our success as an host, but they also help other Tripadvisor users in choosing the right hotel with free internet in downtown Quebec City. To begin, I must admit that there not much I can add to your comment, as it is so thorough and precise, but there are some precisions I would like to bring. First, it is true that it is a 15 minutes uphill walk to the walls of the old city, but taxi is only one of the alternative available to visitors. An alternative route through Quartier Saint-Roch towards the Old Port and the bus/train Station Gare du Palais that will lead you to the oldes part of town, Quartier Petit Champlain is actually my favorite way to reach Old Quebec by foot. Another means of transportation beside a cab would be the city bus system, with several bus routes passing just a stone throw away from our doors that will drop you just next to the fortification’s main gate, Saint-John’s gate. Second, I am sorry that the touristic guide we provided you misled you to the wrong location for the Ice Hotel, which was moved this year from the old zoo to the Village vacances Valcartier. We did notify all our front desk agents of that situation, and asked them to warn guests of that error when they hand-it over to them. Last but not least, I am proud that you always felt welcome when in contact with the “locals” on your visit to Quebec City, as we do are known for our friendly attitude towards visitors. As for the language barrier, we do have bilingual staff available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in order to provide great service to our multi-cultural clientele, with some of our employees been fluent in other languages like Spanish, Portuguese and several others, as we do employ people from various part of the world. So then, once again, a warm thank you for this excellent review of your experience with us, and we will be honored to welcome you again on your next visit to Quebec City in early falls. Best regards, Jean-Pierre Gagné – Hospitality and Guest Experience Manager
