I am a great lover of afternoon tea and I can honestly say that this one was the worst I've had. Rather than a table and chairs, we were seated around a coffee table, My mum sat on a low chair and the other two members of our party sat on a very squashy sofa with little support. The sandwiches were mostly white bread with fillings of a thin slice of ham; egg or tuna. It looked colourless and unappetising . There was no garnish or anything to make the food just a little more attractive. There were four tiny triangles of cheese and tomato on brown bread but these were lost in a sea of unappealing blandness. The cake seemed to be from a shop bought box of mini cream cakes (e.g, mini eclairs, mini cream slice etc) and all had a very wet appearance. The scones were slightly warm although I suspect, because of the slightly over browned top, they were shop-bought ones put into the oven to give a home made touch. However, they tasted very nice and the only thing that has saved this from being a one star review.
When we first arrived we were the only ones in the room, however, when we were halfway through our food the room filled up with a wedding party. All the tables and chairs filled up as did most of the rest of the room with people standing. As could be expected with a very large group of people chatting the noise level was high and we could only converse by leaning forward and shouting to each other - not easy on the squashy sofa.
My brother-in -law paid for the afternoon tea as a treat for my Mum's birthday so I did not feel it was my place to complain to the waitress about the food although I would have done if I'd been the one paying. I belong to two separate groups who regularly go out for afternoon tea and I most certainly will not be recommending this venue. less

Thank you for your review . I am so sorry you did not enjoy your tea with us.
I fully understand your comments re the room and have to agree with you that on that particular day we were extremely busy with two weddings which left us very little space for afternoon teas for that I am truly sorry . I feel your comments over the actual food are a little harsh . The sandwiches are small and varied without much room for garnish without them looking drowned. One cannot garnish or spice afternoon tea sandwiches without them looking more like a ploughman's lunch. Andy or Donna our pastry chefs will be so upset when they hear you did not like their scones etc. I can assure you these were definitely not put in an oven to look homemade, they are home made.
We pride ourselves on customer care and I must apologise once again for the noise in the room
