A beautiful Georgian building tucked away in rolling countryside outside Sheffield. The M1 motorway is close by but don't worry about that, you can't hear it. The hotel has been expanded - very much in sympathy with the original building - with a new wing containing very spacious rooms which are all well appointed. The decor was nice but the food was, at best, average. We went to the restaurant for Sunday lunch and were left somewhat underwhelmed by the fare of pub lunch food. Unfortunately, this part of the world isn't known for being a foodie heaven so you're not really spoilt for choice in the local area. For what we paid it was good, though not great, value for money. Where this hotel falls down is the lack of attention to detail: they just don't know what good service looks like so it all feels a bit amateurish, bar and dining room service could be improved. It also had the obligatory weekend wedding party, but unlike many hotels, they did a good job of keeping wedding guests away from the main hotel. We had a very good night's sleep. less
