So-so hotel with okay room, but with no privacy and poor customer service.

Stayed here two nights on a west coast trip - had three nights booked, but cancelled last night due to not liking the room location or the hotel. I had requested s higher floor for a king ocean view room when I booked through the hotels website. We ended up getting second floor which due to the lay of the land makes it as low as a first floor and the way the promenade was, people walking by the boardwalk were looking right in our room, so we had no privacy. I tried to change to a higher floor, but they had no openings. I make special requests all the time when booking on line and almost always they are met.
When I checked in, I had to ask Emily where the pool and elevator was and was told. There was no mention that the hot tub was closed and had snow fencing around it. When I cancelled the last night, Emily said okay and when I got back to my room, she called and said for some reason, she couldn't change it to a two day stay? I have never had an issue changing or cancelling a reservation like that. When I checked out, a different clerk checked me out, she said "oh you're checking out early". Nothing on the reservation that I cancelled the day before at 3 pm, going by the cancellation policy.
Overall the room was okay, but besides the privacy issue, the doorwall was odd, as when we came in the room, the window over the doorwall was wide open and we both had to get on chairs inside and outside to close them. The hallway was like a freezer and had odd doors, that you had to open to continue down the hall to your room. It was also noisy from people running and slamming doors.
The price was average price, but there in no breakfast. The hotel cafe had awesome food for a decent price and lots of food. All the employees were super nice and friendly.
If in this area again, we would stay at a different lodging. We have stayed at many Best Western's over the years, but felt this location was sub-par, as far as lodging and customer service. less
