Racheal was the nice young lady I spoke to when making reservations and spoke to again to get some more info - she was very helpful and welcoming on the phone.
Hubby and I booked 2 nights to celebrate my 65th birthday. Off-season rate was smashing good value for a really nice king, with sofa, additional queen wall bed, fairly well-equipped kitchenette with table and 2 chairs. Bathroom is nicely done, but very small.. I am a rabid germaphobe - so when I say it was clean - believe me - it was clean.
First live impression at front desk - not so pleasant. The female clerk (not Racheal) that registered us was very aggressive about our obeying "The RULES"! No ifs and or buts...like we were hard-partying college kids looking to sneak in some circus animals, get "likkered" up, smoke dope and cigarettes, then throw room furniture off the balcony...
.......remember I said we were there for my 65th BD. She was not dressed very professionally at all and was quite off-putting with a strident attitude. And, I did have a conversation later that day with the day manager who seemed to really hear my complaint.
Now, having gotten that off my chest - the room was more than we expected for the money, the view was incredible, and the kitchen quite functional for our needs.
The kicker is that we were there during the 100-year storm....power outage! We had requested and got the 5th floor - so no elevator ....and we had to cancel our dinner reservations in Astoria due to the really ferocious winds and rain. Instead of filet mignon, we ate some crackers and cheese with our long-yearned-for $500 bottle of Napa Cab - by...wait for it - no, not candles - but by a flashlight my brilliant hubby had thought to pack! We used the hot tub and pool both nights and found them to be clean and quite relaxing. On the second night the hot tub was full of screaming children. All in all - we found it to be a really nice place to stay for a couples retreat.
Our housekeeper, Magali, was very sweet and changed our bed linens when asked, cleaned the kitchen efficiently and quietly with a pretty smile. We don't care about "free breakfast" - that's why we wanted a small kitchen - and we could have our coffee first thing in the morning while still in our jammies - looking out to a million dollar view. We will stay again I am sure. less
