I am a Mother of 4 and don't spend much money on myself. Since Valentine's Day and my Birthday are within a week of each other, my husband and I take a weekend to celebrate both events. This weekend getaway is something I look forward to every year. It is the only time that I get away from my Mothering responsibilities, household responsibilities, and work responsibilities. We always reserve a suite, one with a hot tub in the room. As I was browsing hotel possibilities, we usually stay at the same particular chain every year but was wanting to try somewhere else, I came across the Best Western and was excited to see a suite room with a hot tub, microwave, mini fridge, and the biggest thing that caught my eye was that it had a balcony. Yes, I know it's winter in Indiana...but I was looking forward to a balcony option. Although it was a little more expensive than the suites without a balcony, I reserved the room for the weekend. We arrive, check in...the guy at the desk, recognizing that we have the executive suite, makes a comment to my husband about it being "that time of year, tax time", my husband just politely let him know that we were celebrating my birthday. I guess my husband didn't look like the type of person who could afford the executive suite without some tax refund money. A little insulting. We go to our room and I was immediately disappointed...the balcony advertised doesn't lead to outside....it is perched above the pool room, which happened to be closed because the hot tub was broke. The hot tub in our room had a waded up towel in it, I'm assuming was left over from cleaning. We fished the towel out with a coat hanger and since the tub itself looked very clean we didn't complain about the towel. The size of the hot tub was amazing, biggest one in a suite we have come across. The mini fridge was much smaller than any other mini fridge in a suite we have stayed in. Capacity is important because we are staying the entire weekend. There were cobwebs in some of the corners near the ceiling, also no big fluffy comforter on the bed..in fact no comforter at all. The room was right above the main desk entrance area, and the door slamming constantly was annoying. Also the semi that was parked close to the main entrance and running all night was bothersome. I'm glad the pool area was closed, I couldn't imagine the amount of noise that would have added to our stay...you know, since we have sliding doors and a balcony at the top of that room. Overall I was not impressed and will not be returning. I only get this special weekend once a year and will not be taking chances next year trying somewhere new. less
