We arrived on Tuesday September 15th (around 3:15pm) and check-in was straightforward, friendly staff etc. The lift was out of order and we were in room 121 so it wasn't a massive problem but might have been for anyone elderly or with small children but that's by the by. We went up one flight of stairs and came out at The Aspect level so technically ground floor as Reception is underneath the building. There were no signs stating which rooms were where, just another flight of stairs so up we went... once at the top a sign said through the door and to the right for room 121... nope, completely wrong! So we doubled back only to find another sign on the wall saying 121 was off to the left... it didn't say how far it was though, the place is like a rabbit warren, no logic to the room numbers or anything, very uneven floors with no warnings which may be a problem for someone a little unsteady or indeed a lady in heels! Also, the carpet was wrinkled up in some places so again, a serious trip hazard! Add to the mix a discarded disposable glove and it wasn't a great first impression!
Where do I begin on the room... well, to say we paid £95.00 for it we were shocked at the state and size of it!
Bed - black mark/stain on duvet cover, bottom sheet didn't fit as it stopped where the pillows began so exposing the mattress protector, one very flat pillow each and no extras in the room should we have required them. I ended up rolling up towels and my jacket to put underneath!
Skirting boards - extremely dusty
Dressing Table - this was tiny to say the least and had the kettle on there as well so a definite safety issue which needs addressing before someone is scalded!
Bathroom - dust and hair on toilet, both on the lid and porcelain, shower screen water-stained, no toiletries and water marked shelving.
View - hmmm, if bins, other peoples dilapidated sheds and grimy back yards are your thing then you are in for a treat with 121! I appreciate not everyone can have a sea view and that you don't book a room purely for the view from the window but please, this is beyond horrendous for the price!
On our way out for the evening we went to Reception to query the missing toiletries but no-one was there and, as we had a table booked elsewhere, we couldn't wait for someone to decide they wanted to answer the bell we rang... twice. On our way back into the hotel (before 10pm) we again approached Reception, same story as before... does that bell even work?? Once in the room I rang down and the call was answered immediately by a young lady who advised she had no idea if toiletries should be provided or not "due to Covid" so I pointed out that as everyone is banging on about handwashing etc then surely there should at least be a bar of soap! She eventually rang me back and asked if I could meet her half way on the corridor with a supply of toiletries as yes, they should have been in the room, but her pass wouldn't let her through the fire door... really?? Should this also be addressed??
Breakfast - if this wasn't so pathetic it would be laughable... £12.95 for one vegetarian sausage, half an average sized tomato, a tablespoon of beans and one egg (scrambled)... we were not offered toast or condiments of any description and the filter coffee was very weak to obviously not enough had been put in the pot. I recommend either larger portions are provided or smaller plates are used as everything just looked lacking and definitely not value for money by any stretch of the imagination! Oh and my husbands plate had a massive chip in it so again, not great!
We checked out of the hotel at around 9:40am... the discarded disposable glove was still on the floor, in the same place when we left so it had definitely been on the corridor for over 18 hours to our knowledge - how many staff members must have walked past it in this time?? less
