Good venue if needing a little tlc.....
We booked through Hotels.com after looking for somewhere new and relatively competitive for a weekend break in the UK. The hotel is typically English, modern in parts but dated in others and in need of a refresh.
That said, with the exception of a rude lady on reception, the staff were very welcoming from the moment we checked in, in the bar, in the leisure area and at breakfast.
Our room was much better than expected, very modern and everything worked! Room 241. We were told it was up a "few flights of stairs"..... A few more and I could have reached the summit of Everest! Well, a little bit of an exaggeration!!
The bar is pleasant enough but there are only a few sofas to be truly able to lounge about and relax but service is good. And judging by my bill, prices are reasonably competitive.
The leisure area, pool, gym, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room do exactly what you expect them to. I don't particularly like swimming so the length and width of a pool isn't particularly important to me but it is small and when there are children about space is very limited. It's clean though and again staff are very courteous.
We only used the restaurant for breakfast and it has everything you need. The only issue for us was wanting fried or poached eggs. The chef appeared to go missing and therefore there's a bit of a wait to get your chosen style of egg. I noticed later on that there was a bell next to the serving area but a) there is no sign next to it to suggest what it should be used for and b) it was never used on either occasion that we dined there.
The hotel has plenty of parking but on the second day there was at least one function at the hotel and parking was then at a premium with no obvious alternative locations nearby.
The location is pretty much perfect, the town centre literally a few minutes walk away together with the beach, the harbours and the marina. Situated on the main road into Weymouth, I have to say the noise levels were low and once we were inside our room, you wouldn't have known that there was a wedding reception taking place several floors below.
We've stayed in a lot worse venues and this provided us with an ideal location to get some much needed rest and relaxation in.
Prices on various websites varied considerably, make sure you do your research! We paid less than £150 for two nights, on some websites the price was in excess of £275! less
