We stayed in room 4 this time, a superior room, overlooking the road. I do not sleep well and am a light sleeper but wasn't troubled by traffic noise, however, on our previous visit we stayed in room 2 which overlooks the garden and would choose the back of the hotel if available as the rooms overlook the garden.
The staff were attentive, friendly and made you feel welcome which is always a bonus.
Our room was clean and comfortable but I have to say could do with redecorating, the wallpaper was marked above the radiator and beginning to peel in places, also going into the bathroom something had, obviously, been removed from the wall and the holes had just been left.
Breakfast, on the whole, was good, scrambled eggs on a couple of occasions were either overcooked or had been kept warm and orange juice was not what I would expect in a Best Western but I am being very picky here.
We ate in the hotel on three evenings and enjoyed our meals although there were slight deviations from the menu when food was served but again nothing major.
All in all we enjoyed our stay, pleasant hotel, good service and an ideal spot for visiting lots of places of interest nearby,North York moors railway on the doorstep, Whitby, Eden camp.I also recommend, if you are a history lover, a stroll up to Pickering castle, interesting and there are some great views from there. less
