I am currently in Altrincham on family business travelling with my two young children and I really don't think I could have been more unlucky with my choice of hotel.
I booked by telephone and was told I could have an "Executive Room" with. King size bed and a sofa bed (sounds good right?) the photos on the website looked wonderful so I went ahead with the booking.
I arrived tonight with my children (7 and 11) and I was very impressed with the reception area, bar and foyer: all of which were clean and modern.
The very nice man at reception took my payment (I added on a second night) and gave me my key card saying something about a Family Room, off we went to room 232 with great expectations. What we got was a dated, cell-like room with stained and dirty carpets, sticky furniture, a mouldy bathroom, a clogged up sink and a broken tap. It was awful.
The children and I went back down to reception to ask for a different room and we were promptly shown "the only other available room in the hotel" - room 202. Same dated appearance but slightly cleaner, awful old accessible bathroom that I knew the children would not touch.
After travelling down from Scotland it was far too late to look around for something else so we decided to stay in our original room but I cancelled the second night. Whilst cancelling the lovely man at reception informed me that a very nice refurbished room (101) would be available tomorrow at the cheaper price of £75, I declined, needless to say.
Find somewhere else to stay, the staff are very nice but the hotel (or at least room 232) is a dirty, dated disgrace! less
