Having stayed at the Calcot Hotel in Theale before I was reluctant to stay again. Due to a work meeting other colleagues were staying and an evening meal had been planned. I booked at last minute and only a single room was available.
I arrived to be told I was in room 17 on the first floor, my shock on entering the very small room was one of overwhelming damp/musty smell.
The curtains were not attached at the end of the rail so was a matter of fiddling to get the gap closed. The kettle lid was broken (pic) the wardrobe door didn’t shut (pic) and to my shock the bed sheet was holed (pic)
The shower was powerful and good. Towels were clean and fluffy.
The smell of damp/musty was present throughout. The room was on the front and a busy road
I didn’t sleep well, the single bed was creaky and uncomfortable, duvet thin and the room cold.
Very disappointed with my stay not worth the charge applied and I’d rather (and will use a travel lodge in future (M4 one much better than this hotel) or locate a hotel in a surrounding village.
This room needs upgrading its shabby, poor decor, needs painting and get rid of the damp/musty offensive smell.
The receptionist was very friendly and the bar staff less
