Having read the reviews i was rather nervous in booking here but decided to as it was the choice of a big chain hotel or an unknown. I should have gone for the other though i think! Booking in was fine, a very nice helpful lady booked us in, pointed us in the direction of our room, the restaurant and bar. The room was lovely, we had upgraded to a superior double room having read previous reviews saying tghe rooms were rather run down. The room was nicely decorated, modern and clean so we felt pleased we had paid the extra. The listing the room stated it had a king sized bed, but in fact it had two singles shoved together and you could feel the uncomfortable join.
We had booked an evenng meal in the restaurant which was a mistake, the menu was very limited, lacking imagination and bland. My husband had an increadibly salty gammon steak with over cooked mushrooms on top and i had cod in white sauce with cauliflower. My white meal was ok but definately lacking something...like colour. We passed on dessert!
Beakfast was equally poor and we only went down for breakfast as it was included but the food was definately rationed as there was just a couple of bits left of full english and despite waiting there was no sign of them being replenished. Once again bacon incredibly salty, sausages very hard but yet pink in the middle, fried egg rock hard...!
The most upsetting part i think was that we had arranged a late check out at 12 as we had wanted to stay for lunch and go back to bed. However the door was knocked on and the room entered at just after 10 (usual check out time) and despite informing the housekeeper of our later check out she once again knocked and entered the room just after 11. We then decided to get up and just leave.
We did pass on our feedback at reception but was just told no one had ever commented before! Sorry! less
