I rely heavily on reviews and read quite a few before deciding on this one and it turned out to be the best for our buck. Our first time here there were issues with cleanliness and ants, however; management was sure to make things right on our second visit. We had a very nice room on the ground floor, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. The sliding glass doors opened right up to the patio fronting the pool deck which was so nice with two little ones in tow. The breakfast bar included with the stay is better than any complimentary breakfast I’ve ever experienced (Hot/Cold cereals, Biscuits, muffins, pastries, pancakes, yogurt, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, sausage gravy, fresh fruit, Belgian waffle station, omelet station, coffee, and apple/cranberry/orange juices). Their on-site restaurant “Traders” is very good, and we highly recommend the Mahi Tacos, and the Club sandwich. IHOP across the street is the best one I’ve ever been too, and there is also a 7-11 and winn dixie all within the block. The pool was always comfortable no matter what time a day. Beach access is easy, and it is a two way drivable section of the beach (a little scary if you have small children that like to run around). The sunrise was unforgettable. Many Mahalos to Karen and the staff at Best Western Aku Tiki for such a wonderful stay.
My review from our first stay on 08-05-2017:
Very dirty room, and a lot of ants.
We checked in at apx 6pm on August 5th, 2017 for a one night stay. After putting our things in our room (#323) we walked around and explored the hotel. There is one elevator which can get pretty busy for the entire hotel (especially in the morning when people are going to breakfast/ checking out/ and housekeeping is trying to clean). There is one Ice Machine, a soda machine, a snack machine, and an atm on the first floor by the elevator. After exploring, we went to the grocery store across the street to pick up some food, came back to our room and set it all down on the counter above the microwave and fridge, and proceeded to get comfortable. A few minutes later, I noticed ants crawling on the A/C, and upon further inspection every surface in our room (to include our food!). When getting down at the right angle you could see that ever service was filthy, had crumbs of food, and ants. I took photos and video to show management, as surely they couldn't be aware of such poor housekeeping... I called the front desk at 9pm and spoke to Stephen who apologized and offered to send someone up to spray for bugs. I declined, as I am sensitive to chemicals/smells, nor did we want to be bothered at 9pm with such things. He then apologized saying there weren't any other rooms available, but I could speak with them assistant manager "Karen" regarding the matter at 9am.
We went to check out at 9am, and were told Karen wouldn't be in until 10am, so we proceeded to show the front desk clerks (and a house keeping person) our video, and photos. They apologized but said that because we booked our room through Expedia, no refund could be given. I explained I didn't use expedia, but was told all third party reservations show up as such in their computer, and they have no access to the funds that pay for these rooms. They then said that they would have Karen in management call me when she came in. I will update my review after I do hear back from management…
