People have warned me about Port Talbot. Apparently it smells. Yes the industrial bit does, but the sea front where the hotel is doesn't. In fact it's quiet nice. You can see the steel works in the distance but the front is wide and open expanses. And with this hotel you get a sea view.
Every staff member was great. The young lady on the front Desk needs a special mention. I had several complaints, i'll get to that in a minute, and each one in turn was dealt with to varying levels of success, but they were corrected. Our initial meeting on turning up was great. Informative and polite. We arrived at our rooms (we had booked 3) and they were all very spacious. Ours had an oudour of cigartte smoke, even though each room is clearly non-smoking. I presume someone had been smoking out of the window. I informed the receptionist of this and when we came back to our room, it smelt cleaner, but there was still this odour. Our next fault was with the TV remote. It only had one battery, but again this was fixed promptly. Then we found the TV ariel was broken, as we only got a broken signal. I informed the receptionist (same one) of this and the Tv and ariel was changed by the time we came to back to our rooms. Unfortunately, this TV had only 5 channels, and obscure ones at that. But at least we now had TV.
The next morning, some of our party went down to use the Swimming pool, which is advertised as open from 9-9. Unfortunately there were swimming lessons on going in the morning. Not to be deterred, they decided to use the Sauna and Jacuzzi instead. While sitting in the hot room, the swimming instructor came in and used the room to dry her clothes in, and while in the hot tub, one of the students, joined them and used this as a place to attempt hand stands etc. Not the most relaxing of experiences.
But on the whole the Hotel was a good place to stay. The breakfast was excellent. I must mention the Kippers. Absolutely beautiful. The Hotel is queit livley at night as they have a couple of function rooms and so there is a lot of background music etc going on, but I couldn't here this in our rooms. And they all seem to have stopped by midnight. The bar staff were great, and the bar is well stocked. This is a pet friendly hotel, and several of the guest had very well behaved dogs with them.
Over all, we got a good deal at this hotel, it is starting to look a bit worn in places, but there is ongoing works, as is apparent with some scaffolding outside. The beds were comfortable, with plenty of pillows, and lots of space in the rooms.
This is a nice hotel, great staff, great food and drink and a nice place to rest your head. less
