I visited York when I was younger and my partner hadn't been for quite some time either. We both had vague memories that York was a beautiful city so decided to book a one night stay for my 22nd birthday, my partner's 25th birthday and Valentines Day. We wanted a hotel with close proximity to the city amenities and I searched on Expedia for the nicest and best located hotel. Dean Court came up and I instantly thought that the hotel looked beautiful, situated right next to York Minster. I contacted the hotel about our joint birthday trip and they were very helpful over email exchanges and also told me about a valet parking service. We booked the Standard Double room for £140 on a Sunday night via Expedia which was great as there's a book now, pay on departure policy which was brilliant as we booked in January and used our February birthday money to clear the balance. We travelled up from Blackpool on Sunday 12th February which was a long, snowy 2.5 hour drive as traffic via Harrogate was slow. However, we arrived at 2.30pm which is only 30 minutes after check in time began. The valet parking service for £18.50 per night is the best thing I've ever experienced when arriving at a hotel. We pulled up right outside the hotel, took our bags and keys into the reception area and handed our car key over. My car was then taken/driven away and parked by a hotel employee in a secure location. Usually, finding parking, carrying all of our bags, paying by the hour in a hotel or public car park and then reloading the car on departure is a nightmare, the valet parking service was a god send and made the experience so much more luxurious and pleasurable for us. The reception area was contemporary and modern, a very clean, well lit and beautifully decorated. The staff were instantly warm, welcoming and friendly on arrival. I felt very comfortable and was smiled at and say hello to by all staff members. Frank (I hope I have got that right) saw me stood in a queue waiting to check in and asked me my name. He grabbed some paper work for me to sign, grabbed my room keys and grabbed my heaviest bag (which was pretty big!) and gave us a quick tour of the main hotel lobby, cafe, restaurant etc and where breakfast would be the next morning. He then showed us to the lift and showed us to our room. He opened our door and showed us round our beautiful room, showed us our mini fridge, our bathroom and everything else. My partner had organised a heart to be laid out on the bed using real rose petals, a birthday card and chocolates for us both, this was a lovely touch. The bathroom was lovely and modern and looked recently refurbished. The room itself was clean and beautiful, it was more of a vintage style than I am used to (I am used to staying in cities) but I loved it as it matched the vintage city of York perfectly. Frank was so helpful and welcoming and even got us some lovely jelly beans for an extra birthday present! We had an amazing few days exploring York and came back at 11.30pm because we just loved the hotel so much. It was only about a 2 minute walk into the centre, right near all of the shops, cafes and restaurants and we were able to walk everywhere! It has only been 24 hours since we left and I want to return already and stay in this hotel again! We paid £190 on departure, £140 for the room, £10 for the rose petals, £5ish for two cold Coca Cola drinks (room service), £18.50 for parking and £17 for breakfast (we weren't told if it was included or not, so that is my only bad point as we didn't know if we had to pay extra or not or how much it was until we checked out). However, this is one of the most perfect hotels I've ever stayed in and I'd go back again in a heartbeat and stay for a whole weekend! The staff kept all of our bags and car until 7pm (they keep it until 10pm) the day of departure so we were able to explore York without worrying about our car or baggage. The staff were great, the hotel was great and our room had the Minster right outside of our window! Can't recommend this hotel enough! Thank you for such a fabulous birthday trip, I hope to visit again in the future! York is a breathtaking city and this hotel matches up perfectly. less

Thank you for reviewing your recent visit to the Dean Court Hotel, I am so pleased to hear that you both had such a nice time, after speaking with you on checkout I know it is such a rare treat to get time away from the kids for just the two of you and for you to tie this in with your birthdays and valentines day must have made this extra special, I am just happy to hear that our hotel and the fantastic staff we have played a part in making this time memorable.
Frank who you mentioned so kindly is an absolute gem, he is the definition of great customer service and your kind words will be relayed to him. Also pleasing to read is how impressed you were on arrival at the hotel, Our valet service is in place to take away the hassles and evidently we achieved this and to hear your description of the best thing you have ever experienced at a hotel is just perfect for a manager to read.
The only slight and very minor setback was not knowing that breakfast wasn't included, I can see you booked through a third party and normally they are pretty transparent with whether the room is booked as room only or bed and breakfast but I will say what I have said many times before when responding to guests, always book direct with the hotel you are staying with, you get to speak with the people who know the hotel, if the rate is incorrectly cheaper on another website the hotel will always match it, just ensure it is a like for like comparison.
I am sure as a parent myself this break was well deserved for you two and it will probably be a while until the next one so I hope your memory of the Dean Court lasts for a long time and when that next opportunity does come we look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel.
