I have stayed here a couple of times previously and it wouldn't be my first choice. A fair welcome and easy enough check in, the room was a little musty smelling when i went in but opened the windows to get rid of that.
Room overlooked the car park so opening the windows to cool the room and get rid of smell resulted in a fair amount of noise, also the corridor seemed to be quite noisy too and the thin walls didn't help.
One pack of decent biscuits and tea/coffee making facilties. The bathroom was adequate but the shower was very underpowered, for some reasson there was an open toothpaste in there, I didn't fancy that and assumed it was a left behind one not cleared away.
The menu was not too bad but they aspired to more than they achieved, served on boards and in very a well presented manner but starter was very over seasoned whils the main had Monk two ways, thickly battered sort of scampi style, couldn't taste the fish the batter overpowered it with all the oil it had soaked up and the more standard piece of Monk was overcooked and on the tough side. A real shame as it was presented really well and the Saffron Mayo was really good.
The night was a bad one as the bed was extremely uncomfortable and the slightest movement in the corridor echoed loudly as did the doors that need to banged shut.
I looked at the gym facilities and as usual the sparce number of machines were taken up with 'members' who seemed to take an age just talking more than exercising so I didn't bother with it again, as with previous visits.
Breakfast wa from 7 and except a none too pleasant sausage was very nice.
Check out was easy and fast, after I had spotted an additional £12 added on to my meal and bar bill - a signatire that was not mine on a receipt. The rate was not bad, on a par with the area, meal £25 for two courses a pint and a coffee, so not too excessive just need to lift the flavours a bit and watch the time of cooking maybe.
Not too bad and if it wasn't for the bed I would not be too displeased to stay here again but the thought of a bed like that again would make it a definite no. less
